Blackburn’s Muslim community is predominantly Gujarati Indian Muslim and Pakistani, with Gujarati, Urdu and Punjabi spoken at home. Teaching is delivered in English, with Urdu support available on request.
Blackburn weekday slots run 4pm–10pm and weekends 10am–8pm. Because the Muslim wards sit within a mile or two of each other and of the town centre, nearly every child here can reach maktab on foot, and the after-school window is short. Families whose children are at maktab until 7pm generally take the weekend package and use it purely for Tajweed correction — the arrangement most Blackburn families choose.

The questions we are actually asked by families in Audley.
We build a block — for example 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00 — so all the lessons happen in one hour and the rest of the evening is free. Each child has their own teacher and their own lesson plan, because a six-year-old on the Qaida and an eleven-year-old on Tajweed need completely different teaching. A household discount applies from the second child.
Most children are ready around five, occasionally four for a child already used to sitting and listening. Before that, the more useful preparation is hearing Quran recited at home and learning short surahs by ear. We will tell you honestly if we think your child would do better waiting a term.
Yes, and the summer is the most productive period of the year. With no school or maktab competing for the evening, families who move to five sessions a week through August often make more progress in six weeks than in a whole term. Packages change month by month with no contract.
