The difference is time on task. In a group maktab, a child might recite for three or four minutes in a two-hour session; the rest is spent listening, waiting or copying. In a 30-minute 1-to-1 lesson, your child recites aloud and is corrected continuously for the full half hour. That is roughly ten times the individual recitation practice.
Yes. Sparkbrook’s Yemeni and Somali communities are well established and we teach children from both. Lessons are in English, with Arabic reading taught through the Qaida method — which works particularly well for families who speak Arabic at home but want their children to read the Quranic script accurately.
Always. Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson, especially for the first few weeks with a younger child. Many Sparkbrook parents sit in for the first month and then step back once they can hear the child is settled and progressing.
